Sekab has been selected to join Sweden’s official business delegation to the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP30, taking place in Belém, Brazil, in November. The company will represent the fossil-free chemical industry and highlight its vital role in the global climate transition.
As world leaders gather in the Amazon region to negotiate climate policy at COP30, Sekab will be present as a voice for Swedish industry, the bioeconomy, and climate impact. With a unique position as a producer of fossil-free chemicals made from bio-based ethanol, Sekab aims to show how green chemistry can contribute to both emissions reductions and industrial competitiveness.
“Participating in COP30 is an important opportunity to show that the transition is already possible. We are producing fossil-free chemicals today—used in everything from paints and cosmetics to pharmaceuticals and food,” says Eva-Marie Byberg, Deputy CEO and Head of Sustainability at Sekab.
COP30 will be held on 10–21 November 2025 in Belém, a city in the heart of the Amazon. Key topics at this year’s summit are expected to include forest protection, sustainable industry, and climate justice—issues where the business community plays a growing role.
“The chemical industry accounts for around seven percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet 96 percent of all manufactured products depend on chemicals. That makes the shift to fossil-free solutions within the sector absolutely crucial for reaching the climate targets. Our technologies and products prove that climate impact and business value can go hand in hand,” says Eva-Marie Byberg.
Sekab is participating as part of the official Swedish delegation, and will engage in side events, meetings, and international networks focused on climate-driven solutions for industry.
