Sekab, a pioneer in sustainable chemistry, has adopted the ISO 14067 standard for calculating their products’ carbon footprints. This calculation method verifies Sekab’s bio-based chemicals as carbon-negative. This provides manufacturers across various sectors with scientifically validated data to demonstrate how using these chemicals significantly reduces Scope 3 emissions and supports ESG commitments.
Industrial chemicals are mainly produced from fossil feedstock and hence are responsible for seven percent of the total global GHG emissions. Sekab does things differently – producing on bio–based feedstock in a production plant running on green energy.
Sekabs fossil-free chemicals are not new, but the certified calculations that provide proof of the sustainability benefits are. Using the ISO14067 standard, the company can now quantify the exact CO₂ savings for its customers in industries such as coatings, plastics, pharmaceuticals, and food production.
The key to the negative emissions is the bio-based feedstock. The biomass captures more CO₂ when growing than is emitted in the rest of the production chain, meaning the product is carbon negative when leaving Sekabs gate.

This initiative allows customers, stakeholders, and industry experts to access verified data and understand the real impact of using these sustainable chemicals. By providing this level of openness, Sekab reinforces its commitment to science-based sustainability and supports businesses in making data-driven environmental decisions.
