Europe’s chemical industry is facing a new reality. Geopolitical tensions, volatile energy markets and growing global competition are exposing the vulnerabilities of an industry built on fossil feedstocks and complex international supply chains.

For years, fossil-free chemistry has primarily been discussed as a climate solution. And rightly so. But that conversation is missing half the story.
Fossil-free chemistry is also about reducing dependence on fossil value chains, with all the volatility and geopolitical vulnerabilities that come with them. It offers Europe an opportunity to strengthen its industrial base while continuing to deliver on its climate ambitions.

At Sekab, this is already part of our everyday business. We manufacture fossil-free chemicals in Europe, using renewable feedstocks, and offer our customers an alternative to conventional fossil-based supply chains. The chemistry is the same, but the origin of the carbon is different. And increasingly, that difference matters for reasons that go well beyond emissions.

Renewable feedstocks are not without their own challenges, and no supply chain is entirely immune to disruption. But broadening the options available to European industry is an important step towards greater resilience.

For us, sustainability and competitiveness have never been separate agendas. As Europe looks to secure its industrial future, we believe that reducing fossil dependence will become an increasingly important part of the answer.

And we intend to be a driving force in making that happen.
