The outcome of COP30 is hard to ignore: the world once again stopped short of naming and phasing out the root cause of the climate crisis. Oil-producing states blocked a global roadmap away from fossil fuels, leaving us with an agreement that lacks both clarity and courage. It’s frustrating, but not surprising. When the fossil economy still shapes geopolitics, progress will never be linear. And yet, beyond the negotiating table, a different story unfolded.
A coalition of more than 80 countries, including the EU, is now pushing ahead with its own fossil phase-out roadmap. A Global Implementation Accelerator is being launched to turn ambition into action. And across the summit, the divide between those defending the past and those building the future became impossible to miss.
This is the real choice the world faces. It’s time to pick your team. The camp clinging to fossil dependency – or the one driving the shift toward a fossil-free, resilient industry.
Sekab participated in COP30 as part of the Swedish business delegation, highlighting the role of fossil-free, bio-based chemicals in industrial decarbonization. And while politics hesitated, business did not. Our meetings were focused, constructive, and grounded in real progress. Across sectors, companies showed the same energy: the transition is happening because industry is making it happen. Business is becoming the locomotive, not because it’s easy, but because it’s necessary for competitiveness, resilience, and long-term value.
And that brings us to you.
If you’re reading this, you are likely part of a value chain that can be defossilized with commercially available, fossil-free chemicals. Maybe our partnership can be one of the beacons of light launched at the next COP?
