Last week, a webinar organized by the EU project REWOFUEL (REsidual soft WOod conversion to high characteristics drop-in bioFUELs) was held by its project partners Sekab and SkyNRG.

The aviation industry faces a major challenge: transitioning into a sustainable mode of transportation. For this transition to happen, large amounts of sustainable aviation fuel must be produced. Within REWOFUEL, a new value chain is demonstrated and evaluated where residues from the forest industry are converted into sustainable aviation fuel via an isobutene intermediate.

Eva van Mastbergen, Project Lead within the Future Fuels team at SkyNRG, presented SkyNRG’s background in sourcing, producing, blending, and distributing Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and their role within the REWOFUEL project. An important step in developing a new sustainable aviation fuel is the process of receiving approval for international standardization via ASTM. Eva van Mastbergen informed the audience about this process and, more specifically, about SkyNRG’s efforts seeking ASTM approval of isobutene-derived SAF produced by the REWOFUEL consortium.

If you did not have the opportunity to follow this insightful webinar live you can watch the recording here.

The next REWOFUEL webinar will take place on October 5th 2021 and will focus on biobased gasoline with the project partner Repsol. Further information will be published on REWOFUEL’s Twitter and LinkedIn.

Looking forward to see you then!
