Sekab’s annual and sustainability report for 2023 shows how the company has achieved significant milestones that strengthen its position as a leading producer of the green bio-based chemicals needed to transition the industry.

In the annual and sustainability report for 2023, despite a challenging industrial climate in Europe, Sekab shows positive development on many fronts.

“2023 was a pivotal year for Sekab. Despite unfavorable trends, we streamlined our organization and processes and positioned ourselves to drive the transition towards a sustainable future. Our collective knowledge, history, and development form a solid foundation as Sekab aims towards the future,” says Emil Källström, CEO of Sekab.

As a pioneer in the still heavily fossil-dependent chemical industry, Sekab further advanced its position in 2023. During the year, Sekab joined the Science Based Targets Initiative and had its climate goals scientifically approved by external experts. This is important both to highlight their own climate work and as a valuable tool in marketing efforts.

“Thanks to Science Based Targets, we can find partners in our value chains who are genuinely interested in both carrying their own weight and contributing to lowering our collective emissions,” says Eva-Marie Byberg, Head of Sustainability & Outreach at Sekab.

Highlights of the year include a new approach to development with the task of leading Sekab to new products and partnerships, thereby paving the way for an industry in need of transformation. The company deepened and established new collaborations with world-leading companies in various industries—a testament to Sekab’s credibility as the leading player in ethanol chemistry.

Sekab’s production facility in Örnsköldsvik maintained consistently high quality in daily operations throughout the year and can report another year without unplanned interruptions in their factory. This translates to very high delivery reliability and secure business for customers.
